Youth Update 2019

As most of you are aware, 2018 was a year of mega change for NCF. Some was planned, some was not, but in all things, it remains our desire to steward the resources God has placed in our care as best as possible.

The young people of our church are one of those resources.

The group of us who work with the youth have been praying for direction on how to better lead and equip the youth groups.

As we look back on the last 5 years of youth ministry, we have noticed a few trends. First, many of our senior high teens never transition to an adult focused group before leaving for college. Second, both groups need time and planned activities just to have fun as a family. Third, we have limited leadership resources that we need to also steward well.

The result of our time of reflection is to change the present format of youth ministry.

Beginning in March and continuing through the end of the school year, we will have ONE group for grades 6-10. Those in grades 11-12 will be encouraged to attend a Bible study or become part of a Missional Family with the rest of the adults.

The youth group will meet the 1st & 3rd Fridays of the month at the home of Jason & Sabrina Allen in Great Bend.  Jason and Sabrina have offered several times to host, and we are excited to take them up on it. Group will run from 6-8:30pm. We realize some will not be able to make it until closer to 6:30 due to sports so the first 30 minutes will be planned accordingly.

We are planning on studying the book of Esther. Each of the youth will be provided a workbook and WILL have homework each week. It is our pleasure to help assist you in teaching your kids about God. You should check with them to make sure they are doing their work. Also, please make sure they have their Bible and workbook with them on group nights.

We know that the youth have wanted more special activities. Those in grades 9-10 will work with the leadership to plan 2 special Friday night events before the end of the school year. They will also help lead the events for the entire group.

Did you know your kids eat a lot? Snacks will be provided by the leaders and hosts for the March 1st meeting. Each family will be asked to sign up for snacks at least two times before the end of the school year. We will have a sign-up sheet and Laura will be connecting with you about this. Please note that we do have some youth with very serious tree nut allergies (peanuts, coconut, etc).

The new group will begin Friday, March 1st (YES! That is 2 weeks in a row of the J-GROUP – we figure we owe them!) Attached is the schedule for the rest of the school year so you can make it a priority on your calendar.

If you have any questions or concerns about the changes, please feel free to contact Mike or David. If you need directions, please call Sabrina Allen (315.775.6871)

God Bless!
