Something old... something new.
Open tables are simply a dedicated night of the week where a family opens up their table to others. Those attending bring what they can, and everyone enjoys food and fellowship. It is not meant to be the place where the next great theologians are incubated, but rather a place where dislocated, disconnected people can come together to experience the fullness of the family of Christ.
It blew my mind that I had not done something like this sooner! Think about our society and our region:
- high transition with military
- highly disconnected society (due to weather and social media)
- people are more "keep to themselves" at home
- people like to visit but often don't want visitors, especially unexpected
The need for us to connect has never been greater. So, this month we will experiment with our first Open Table at our house. Lord willing, other families will want to open up their tables and connect with their church family. So, watch the bulletin, the church calendar or even the Open Table page on our website for dates, times, locations and themes.
I look forward to gathering with you around the table.
